Celebration

We really hope you will be able to join us for our silver wedding celebration on Saturday 22nd July 2023 – 18:30 for drinks, with a BBQ from 19:30.

Venue

We will be in the Big Barn and adjacent field at our neighbour’s property Rose’s Bower, Great Whittington, NE19 2HE. This is a 5 minute walk from our house.

Dress

From smart casual to full on glamour, whatever you feel like! You might like to pack a jumper in case you want to enjoy the beautiful outdoor areas on a cooler Northumbrian evening.

Travel

If you are driving, you can park either at Rose’s Bower or meet at ours in the afternoon and walk up from there. Anyone travelling from outside the area, please see the Travellers section for more information.

Open House at The Whiggs

Thank you for going to so much effort to join us for our celebration. We hope might also be be able to incorporate a Northumbrian holiday, and have put together some information about accommodation options and local attractions to try to tempt you!

We would be thrilled to get more time with you, whether you want to chill out at ours, or perhaps take some day trips to the wonderful castles and beaches that are in easy reach ~ and of course please join us for whatever meals you happen to be around for - we will have an open house with a fridge full of food and drinks.

We truly appreciate you coming, and look forward to time together which we hope will be filled with special memories for all of us.

Accommodation

At Rose’s Bower, there are 8 bedrooms across three beautiful cottages. In idyllic countryside with stunning views, these come with the use of hot tubs and the surrounding woodland and paddocks. There is also free camping with access to the bathrooms in the Big Barn (where we are having the Saturday night event).

The rooms are available at a special rate of £250 for the weekend (c. 50% off the usual). ThIs price is for one bedroom for up to three nights – so you can arrive any time on the Friday or Saturday, and stay until Sunday or Monday as suits.

There is a further option at Rose’s Bower: The Treehouse, which is currently under construction in the woods, is £600 for the weekend and would offer an amazing experience for anyone wanting something extraordinary. It has one bedroom up amongst the tree tops, a kitchen and a spacious sitting room (which could also accommodate kids).

Please let us know if you would like Rose’s Bower accommodation – first come first served!

There is also a huge selection of other types of accommodation within easy reach, from glamping to log cabins to inns and hotels. Just let us know if you’d like any help in finding something suitable. And let us know if you’d like any help with travel from airports or stations.

Local attractions

There are so many wonderful things to see and do nearby. For example, Hadrian's Wall Path. The 2000-year-old, 73-mile wall stretches across the National Park with fascinating sites, temples, and Roman bathhouses scattered along it. This striking feat of engineering, impressive enough to inspire Game of Thrones, spans Northumberland's countryside. Walltown crags, Housesteads, Vindolanda and Chesters Roman Fort offer History excitement for all ages!

The spectacular Northumberland coastline, just 45 minutes away, is an area that’s so lovely it has been deemed an Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. You’ll find wide swathes of sandy beaches, nature reserves that are home to a variety of birds and wildlife, pretty seaside villages with traditional tearooms and a lot of historic castles.
